Prescription For Death

April, 2014

How painkillers destroyed the town of War, West Virginia
HAD THE POET ROBERT FROST LIVED NEXT DOOR TO SOUTH AFRICAN MODEL SHANE, HE
WOULD NEVER HAVE PENNED THE LINE "GOOD FENCES MAKE GOOD NEIGHBORS"
-w- eep up with the Joneses? No / thank you. Their lives are k boring and their parties as ^ tasteless as the ambrosia salad ^^ Mrs. Jones trots out at every barbecue. Visit instead with the fetching young woman next door— Shane, she insists you call her. Others in the neighborhood have called at nine p.m. and
asked for the music to be turned down, but Shane dances to the suggestive tunes of our time in her bay window with the curtains drawn back. She welcomes guests and says the weather is too nice to be indoors but so hot that she needs to be sprayed down. Around the back is her lush garden, surrounded by greenery, where Shane creates her own private April shower.
